WHITE LIONS

There is only one place were they have materialised – the Timbavati region, bordering the Kruger National Park, “Tsimba-vaati” meaning in the Shangaan language “the place where starlions came down from the heavens”.
African elders explained their mysterious white colour as sunlight, all the colours of the spectrum in one.
Prized for their rarity, and sent to zoos and circuses around the globe, most famously Siegfried and Roy’s magic act in Las Vegas.
Tragically, all White Lions today are in captivity. After their forced removals from their sacred homelands, they have been extinct in the wild for over 12 years.
Linda Tucker found the Global White Lion Protection Trust in 2002.

TIQUILA

The Karoo town of Graaff-Reinet.
The town is set for world fame as the only place outside of Mexico to make tiquila.
The real break for the company came after the misfortune that struck the Mexican tequila distillers – a disease that almost destroyed the agave crop there, so there is a worldwide shortage of tequila.
The factory is next to the Cape Town-to-Johannesburg highway,on the N9, an area spanning 480 hectares.
Produsing 4 000 litres a day by the end of 2003, with plans ultimately to raise up to 10 000 litres daily, 100 percent distillate, diluted to a strength of 45 percent alcohol, unlike Mexican tequila, it also has no sugar added.

T he name "tequila" is protected under international trade laws, the product is branded "Agava".

ANCIENT BEADS

Prehistoric beads from Blombos cave in South Africa made of snail shell have been dated to about 75,000 years ago—more than 40,000 years older than any previously discovered personal adornment.
The find is a surprise for many archaeologists, who had not expected evidence of such early cultural complexity and modern human behaviour.
